Terms of Use

Updated May 10, 2026

The short version. reweave is an educational nonprofit. these terms are the rules for using the site, written in plain language because we want you to actually read them. by creating an account or using the service you agree to them. our privacy policy covers data. our cookie notice covers cookies. this page covers everything else.

On this page

Who we are

reweave is operated by reweave Inc., a 501(c)(3) educational nonprofit registered in the United States (EIN 46-1877873). when these terms say "we", "us", "our", or "reweave", we mean reweave Inc. when we say "you" or "your", we mean you, the person using the service.

these terms together with our privacy policy and cookie notice form an agreement between you and reweave. if you are using reweave on behalf of a school, district, or organization, you confirm you have authority to bind that entity.

Your account

most of reweave works without an account. to weave lessons, save them, run Pro Search, or subscribe, you create one. by creating an account you confirm that:

  • you are at least 13 years old, or a parent or guardian is creating the account for you
  • the email address you provide is yours and is real
  • you will keep your login credentials secure and not share them
  • you are responsible for all activity in your account
  • if you are creating an account for a school or district, you have authority to do so

if you suspect unauthorized access, email [email protected] right away.

your notebook (end-to-end encrypted). if you use the reflection notebook on reweave, your entries are encrypted on your device with a key derived from your password before they reach our servers. we cannot read your notebook contents. we also cannot recover them for you. you are responsible for remembering your password and for saving the one-time recovery phrase we show you during setup. we strongly recommend setting a verified backup email so you have a second path to reset your password if you ever lose access to your main inbox. if you lose your password, your recovery phrase, and your backup email all at once, your notebook contents are permanently unrecoverable. that is the explicit tradeoff for true privacy.

What you can do

subject to these terms, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use reweave for non-commercial educational purposes. this includes:

  • searching and watching films
  • reading stories and lesson scaffolds
  • generating lessons from real human stories using the weaver
  • saving, renaming, and organizing lessons in your library
  • printing and adapting lessons for your students or learners
  • sharing lessons with colleagues for non-commercial educational use

you can do these anywhere in the world, subject to local law.

What you cannot do

Most important rule: never enter student PII. do not put student names, addresses, photos, ID numbers, or any other personally identifying information into the weaver, the search bar, or anywhere else on reweave. we filter the obvious cases but you remain responsible for what you submit. de-identified context is great ("8 second graders, mixed reading levels"). identified context is not.

please also do not:

  • harass, demean, dehumanize, threaten, or target any individual or group, including on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or age
  • scrape, copy, or extract our films, stories, lessons, or corpus by any automated means
  • use reweave content to train, fine-tune, or develop any AI or machine learning model
  • resell, sublicense, or commercially distribute any reweave content
  • build a competing service using our content or platform
  • reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code from the platform
  • impersonate another person or create accounts in a name that is not yours
  • circumvent rate limits, usage caps, or access controls
  • upload malware, attempt to breach our security, or interfere with the operation of the service
  • use reweave for anything illegal in your jurisdiction
  • send spam, chain letters, or unsolicited promotional content through any reweave channel

if you do these things, we may suspend or terminate your account without notice and may report you to authorities where required by law.

Your content, our content, storyteller content

your content. the lessons you weave, the titles you write, the notes you save: yours. you keep ownership. by saving them on reweave you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to host, store, display, and serve them back to you so the platform can do its job. this license ends when you delete the content. we remove deleted content from active systems within 30 days; from backups within 90 days. limited exceptions apply where retention is required by law.

our content. the platform, the brand, the design, the source code, the brand fonts, and the human-written lesson scaffolds in our corpus belong to reweave. you receive only the rights expressly granted in these terms. all other rights are reserved.

storyteller content. the films and personal stories of the people featured on reweave belong to those storytellers and to the filmmakers who shot them, used by reweave under license or partnership. these are real people who shared real stories with care. you may view, reflect on, and use this content for non-commercial educational purposes only. you may not modify, repost, redistribute, or use it for any commercial purpose. anything that would diminish or misrepresent a storyteller is prohibited.

feedback. if you send us suggestions or feedback, you grant us a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free license to use that feedback for any purpose without obligation to you.

AI-generated lessons

the weaver and Pro Search use Anthropic Claude API to generate lesson scaffolds and surface story matches. a few important things to know:

  • output ownership. Anthropic does not claim ownership of API output. you own the lessons you weave, subject to the rights of the storytellers and our license to host them.
  • copyright limits. under current US law, AI-generated material lacking sufficient human authorship may not qualify for copyright protection. your contributions, edits, and curation may.
  • accuracy is not guaranteed. AI output can include factual errors, missed nuances, or phrasing that does not fit your context. always review a lesson before using it. always adapt for your specific learners.
  • your inputs to the weaver are sent to Anthropic to generate output. Anthropic processes this under their commercial terms and does not use API inputs or outputs to train their models.
  • no training on our content. you may not use lessons, films, stories, or other content generated through or hosted on reweave to train, fine-tune, or develop any AI or machine learning model.

Schools, districts, student data

we comply with COPPA (Children Online Privacy Protection Act) and FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) for school use of reweave. our position is simple: we do not want or need student personal information on reweave.

  • teachers and administrators are the account holders. students do not need accounts.
  • schools and districts act as controllers of any student data; reweave acts as a service provider operating under the school direction.
  • if a school or district enters a separate written agreement with us (DPA, MSA, or similar), the terms of that agreement control to the extent of any conflict with these public terms.
  • we do not advertise to students. we do not build student profiles. we do not sell student data. ever.
  • teachers must not enter student names, photos, or other personal data into the weaver. de-identified context is fine.
  • parents or schools can request deletion of any data we may have inadvertently collected from a student by emailing [email protected].

see our privacy policy for more on student data and school agreements.

Subscriptions, payment, refunds

the free tier is free. paid tiers are billed monthly via Stripe. by subscribing you agree to be charged the listed price plus any applicable taxes on a recurring basis until you cancel.

cancellation. you can cancel anytime in /account via the billing portal. cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you keep access until then. no partial-month refunds.

refunds. if you cancel within 7 days of your first paid charge and feel reweave is not the right fit, email [email protected] and we will refund that charge. after 7 days, refunds are case-by-case at our discretion.

price changes. we may change subscription prices. existing paid subscribers receive at least 30 days notice and the option to cancel before any new price takes effect.

payment processor. Stripe processes all payments. we do not see or store full card details. our processor and other subprocessors are listed in our privacy policy.

chargebacks. if you dispute a charge with your bank instead of contacting us first, we may suspend your account pending resolution.

Team plans

reweave Pro is available as a team plan for schools, districts, and other organizations. team plans add a few responsibilities for the person who administers the team.

admin responsibilities. team administrators are responsible for who they invite to their plan and for ensuring that everyone invited follows their organization's acceptable use policies. inviting someone gives them access to your paid seats; you remain responsible for that access.

seats. teams are subject to the seat limit of the active subscription. invites can be sent only up to the number of seats purchased. if you reduce seats below current member count, no members lose access automatically, but you will not be able to add new members until you are back within the seat limit.

what members see and do not see. as the admin, you can see the names, emails, and join dates of the people on your team. you cannot see their journal entries, film viewing history, saved films, or any notes they have written. that is by design and applies to every team plan, including district plans.

purchase orders and renewals. for district and organization purchase-order plans, the billing terms of the PO control payment, due dates, and renewal. renewals are not automatic for PO plans; you will receive a renewal quote in advance of expiry.

removal and leaving. an admin may remove a member at any time. a member may also leave a team at any time from their own account. removed or departed members keep their personal account and all of their personal content; they simply lose access to the Pro features that were granted by being on the team.

reweave app

the reweave app (listed on the App Store as "Reweave: Curiosity Journal") is reweave's iOS app for slow, reflective encounters with the people in our corpus. these terms apply to your use of that app, alongside the platform rules of the App Store. an Android version is planned but not yet released.

What you can use it for. personal reflection and non-commercial educational use. read about people, write your own noticings, save photos to your private journal, return to people you have met. that is the whole shape of it.

Your reflections are yours. anything you write in the journal stays on your device and belongs to you. we do not see it, we do not store it, we do not back it up. if you uninstall the app or use "clear your journal" from in-app settings, that data is gone.

Story content. the films, photos, and written fragments about each person in the app belong to those storytellers and to the filmmakers, used by reweave under license or partnership. these are real people who shared real stories. you may view and reflect on this content inside the app. you may not screenshot to redistribute, repost outside the app, or use any of it for a commercial purpose. anything that would diminish or misrepresent a storyteller is prohibited.

reweave Pro. Pro is an optional in-app purchase. monthly and annual auto-renewing subscriptions, and a one-time lifetime unlock. subscriptions renew automatically per Apple's standard rules until you cancel. you manage and cancel from your Apple ID account settings on your iPhone, not from us. lifetime is a non-consumable, one-time payment with no renewal.

Refunds. Apple handles refunds for in-app purchases, not reweave. if you want a refund, request one through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. we can point you to the right link, but we cannot issue a refund directly because we never touched the payment.

Parental gate. before any in-app purchase or restore, a single-digit math problem appears. this is required by App Store guidelines for content that may reach younger users and is meant to prevent accidental purchases by minors.

Clearing or uninstalling. "clear your journal" in settings removes your local journal data and keeps your purchase active. uninstalling the app removes everything stored on your device, including the journal; your purchase can be restored on a new install by tapping "restore purchase" in settings.

Contact. for anything about the reweave app, email [email protected].

Ending things

you can leave anytime. /account has a delete account button. that wipes your profile, saved lessons, notes, and usage logs as described in our privacy policy.

we may suspend or close your account if you violate these terms, abuse the service, fail to pay, or do something that puts other users or the platform at risk. we will try to notify you when the situation allows.

survival. sections 5 (your content), 6 (AI-generated lessons), 10 (DMCA), 11 (disclaimers and limits), 12 (governing law), and 14 (the fine print) survive any termination.

Copyright complaints (DMCA)

we respect copyright. if you believe content on reweave infringes your copyright, send a written notice to our designated DMCA agent that includes:

  • identification of the copyrighted work claimed to be infringed
  • identification of the material claimed to be infringing and where it is on reweave (URL or path)
  • your contact information (name, address, phone, email)
  • a statement that you have a good faith belief that the use is not authorized
  • a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on their behalf
  • your physical or electronic signature

send notices to [email protected] with subject line "DMCA Notice".

we will respond to valid notices, remove or disable access to the material as required, and notify the user who posted it. they may submit a counter-notice. repeat infringers will have their accounts terminated. knowingly false claims may subject you to liability under 17 U.S.C. section 512(f).

Disclaimers and limits

service provided "as is". reweave is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied. to the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and any warranties arising from course of dealing or usage of trade. we do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or that any content will be accurate.

AI output. AI-generated content is not guaranteed to be accurate, appropriate, or fit for use without review. you are the educator. you are responsible for reviewing and adapting any AI output before using it with learners.

limitation of liability. to the maximum extent permitted by law, reweave, our directors, officers, employees, and agents will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of the service, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. our total cumulative liability for any claim is limited to the greater of (a) the total amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim or (b) one hundred United States dollars (US$100).

indemnification. you agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless reweave, its directors, officers, employees, and agents from claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable attorney fees) arising out of (i) your use of the service, (ii) your violation of these terms, (iii) your violation of any rights of any third party, or (iv) any content you submit.

some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations or exclusions. in those places the limitations apply to the maximum extent permitted by law. nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Governing law and disputes

these terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods does not apply.

step 1, email us first. if you have a dispute, please email [email protected] describing the issue. most things resolve here.

step 2, mediation. if direct discussion does not resolve it within 30 days, the parties agree to attempt mediation under the Mediation Rules of JAMS or another mutually agreed mediator before filing suit. each party bears its own costs.

step 3, courts. if mediation does not resolve the dispute, the federal and state courts located in San Francisco County, California have exclusive jurisdiction. each party consents to personal jurisdiction there.

no arbitration, no class-action waiver. we have deliberately chosen not to require binding arbitration or to waive class actions. you keep your full legal rights.

injunctive relief. notwithstanding the above, either party may seek injunctive relief in any court of competent jurisdiction to protect intellectual property or confidential information.

Changes and notices

changes to these terms. we may update these terms. material changes will be flagged at the top of this page with a new "Updated" date and emailed to active subscribers when we can. for non-material changes, posting the updated terms is notice. continued use of reweave after a change means you accept the updated terms.

notices to you. we send notices by email to the address on your account, by posting on the site, or in-product. you consent to receive notices electronically.

notices to us. send legal notices by email to [email protected].

The fine print

entire agreement. these terms, the privacy policy, the cookie notice, and any separate written agreement we sign with you are the entire agreement between us about reweave and supersede any prior agreement on the same subject.

severability. if any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full effect, and the unenforceable provision will be replaced with one that comes closest to the original intent.

no waiver. our failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver of our right to enforce it later.

assignment. you may not assign these terms or your account without our written consent. we may assign these terms in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, with notice to you.

no third-party beneficiaries. these terms create rights only for you and us. no other person may enforce them.

force majeure. we are not liable for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control (natural disasters, war, terrorism, civil unrest, government action, internet outages, hosting provider failures, pandemic-related disruption).

headings. headings are for convenience and do not affect interpretation.

language. these terms are written in English. if we provide a translation, the English version controls in case of conflict.

export. you may not use reweave in violation of US export control laws or any sanctions program.
